T.A.L.K. - Day 30: Amusement Parks
there are two amusement parks in hong kong - Ocean Park and Disneyland.
ocean park
the older one of the two, and probably the better one =P it's like a mixture between seaworld and knott's but with less rides. there are two areas to the park - one is higher up on the mountain than the other, and they are connected by cable cars, which i hate because i'm acrophobic. this place is kind of a pain to get to - there's not much civilization around it, per se, so you can either take the bus, call a cab or drive yourself there. sometimes i miss disneyland in anaheim because it's so easy to get to. there are seaworld-ish, educational things, and there are some pretty cool rides plus a ferris wheel. there is exactly ONE rollercoaster with 3 loops, which everyone thinks is the shit. i remember in middle school we'd always compete and see who can ride it the most times without puking...i'd like to take them to six flags and repeat the dare on Goliath, heh.
disneyland
biggest disappointment of the century =p not that i've been there (socal disneyland ftw!), but from what i've seen/heard, the place was a bust and didn't live up to the hype. it did attract a lot of tourists when it first opened - but they were mostly mainlanders that didn't know any etiquette, so they totally trashed the park with garbage, phlegm and piss (see the TALK post regarding mainlanders). A couple more rides opened during the year, but ticket sales still weren't hot...not even when they rolled out summer passes. also, some of the staff that wear character suits have been caught in sexual harassment troubles in the first few months because they supposedly groped some females during picture-taking sessions. they are still expanding, though, in hopes of attracting more people. but seriously, with the lack of land and the possibility of a disneyland in shanghai, i think this place is doomed.
